The numbers
Exactly what each system size earns
The central slabs apply to residential connections anywhere in India. The Bihar Government top-up is added on top for consumers in the state.
1 kW
₹40,0002 kW
₹80,0003 kW & above
₹98,000Why almost everyone lands on 3 kW
Below 3 kW you leave subsidy money on the table; above it, the extra kilowatts are entirely at your own cost. For a household consuming around 300 units a month or more, a 3 kW system is usually both the best technical fit and the best rupee-per-rupee use of the two schemes. If your consumption is genuinely higher, a larger system still makes sense — just with a clear understanding that the ₹98,000 does not grow with it.
Your part vs our part
You provide four documents. We do the rest.
Between the two schemes the money is genuinely generous. The process, honestly, is where most people give up — so we made it our job rather than yours.
What we need from you
- A recent electricity bill
- Aadhaar card of the connection holder
- Bank passbook or a cancelled cheque
- A photograph of your roof
What we handle
- Registration on the PM Surya Ghar national portal
- The Bihar Government top-up claim, filed alongside it
- Vendor selection and DISCOM feasibility approval
- Installation with ALMM-approved panels and inverters
- DISCOM inspection and net-meter installation
- Follow-up on both claims until each amount is credited

Your figures will differ with roof orientation, shading, brand choice and tariff. We put yours in writing after the survey.
State scheme
The Bihar Government subsidy, on top of the central one
A lot of people in Darbhanga assume they must choose between the central scheme and the state one. You do not. An eligible homeowner in Bihar receives both, credited separately to the same bank account.
The central PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana amount is fixed nationally. The Bihar Government then adds a state top-up of up to ₹20,000 for residential rooftop consumers — which is what takes a 3 kW system from ₹78,000 of support to roughly ₹98,000.
You do not file anything twice. We submit the central application on the national portal and the state claim alongside it from the same set of four documents, then chase both until each amount lands.
What we will not do
State schemes get revised, paused and reopened. We check what is actually running for your connection before we quote, and our written proposal always shows the central and state amounts on separate lines — so you can see exactly what is certain and what depends on the state component still being open. If it has closed by the time you apply, the central ₹78,000 is unaffected.

The subsidy journey
From application to money in the bank
Portal registration
We register your application on the PM Surya Ghar national portal against your consumer number, with Apex Solar selected as the vendor, and prepare the Bihar Govt. top-up claim from the same documents.
DISCOM feasibility
The electricity department checks your connection and sanctioned load and issues feasibility approval — typically one to two weeks.
Installation
Your system is installed and commissioned with ALMM-approved panels and inverters, as the scheme requires.
Inspection & net meter
A DISCOM official inspects the plant and the net meter is installed. We coordinate and attend this visit.
Claim filing
We upload the commissioning certificate and your bank details and submit both the central and the state claims.
Money credited
Each amount is transferred directly to your bank account — the central subsidy usually within thirty to forty-five days of inspection, the state top-up separately.
Running a business? The benefit is different — and often bigger.
Neither PM Surya Ghar nor the Bihar Government top-up covers commercial, industrial or institutional connections — both are residential schemes. Instead you can claim 40% accelerated depreciation on the plant in the first year under the Income Tax Act, plus GST input credit. For most businesses paying commercial tariffs, that combination is worth more than the residential subsidy — and it comes with no portal, no queue and no inspection wait. Commercial solar details
Subsidy questions
What people ask us before applying
Two subsidies stack. Centrally, PM Surya Ghar pays ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and ₹78,000 for 3 kW or larger. The Bihar Government adds a state top-up of up to ₹20,000 on top, taking a 3 kW system to around ₹98,000. There is a ceiling — a 5 kW or 10 kW residential system receives the same amount as a 3 kW one.
It is a state-level top-up that sits on top of the central PM Surya Ghar amount for residential rooftop consumers in Bihar. You do not choose between the two — an eligible homeowner receives both, each credited separately to the same bank account. Because it is a state scheme, the amount and its availability are reviewed from time to time, so we confirm the figure that currently applies to your connection during the free survey rather than promising a number on a website.
There is a separate claim, but not separate work for you. We file the central application on the national portal and the state claim alongside it using the same set of documents, then follow both until each amount is credited.
Residential electricity consumers with a valid connection in their own name, a roof with shadow-free space, and a bank account for the subsidy credit. Commercial, industrial and institutional connections are not eligible under this scheme.
After installation, DISCOM inspection and net-meter fitting, the subsidy is normally transferred to your bank account within thirty to forty-five days. We file the claim and follow it up until it lands.
Yes. PM Surya Ghar is a reimbursement scheme — you pay the full system cost and receive the subsidy afterwards. Anyone offering to deduct the subsidy from your price upfront is not describing the actual scheme.
A recent electricity bill, the Aadhaar card of the connection holder, a bank passbook or cancelled cheque, and a photograph of your roof. We prepare and upload everything else.
Yes — it is a state scheme and states revise these things. That is exactly why we verify what is running before quoting, and why our written proposal states the central and state amounts separately. If the state component is not available when you apply, the central ₹78,000 is unaffected and your system still pays for itself in roughly four years.
No. Both schemes require installation by a vendor registered on the national portal, using approved ALMM-listed panels and inverters. Apex Solar is a registered vendor.
Rejections almost always come from document mismatches — a name that differs between the bill and the Aadhaar, or an unclear roof photograph. We check all of this before filing, and if a query is raised we respond to it on your behalf.
